"Data as Art"

This is my "Data as Art" project. My phone tells me how much data that each individual app uses, so I did the math and discovered this. Snapchat uses 61.9% of my data, Instagram uses 7.14%, Twitter uses 21.43%, and Spotify uses 9.52%. I tried to display this in almost a pop art way. I took the logos of each individual app and made them really small. I organized them in a simple way based on the percentages I found. This is how i created this. It looks just like square blocks of color.

"5 Minute Walk"

These are the pictures I decided to use for my 5 minute walk project. I got up early in the morning and took pictures on a trail behind my house. The trail leads down to a lake. I took pictures all around the trail of everything around. These were my favorite pictures of the ones I took. I took pictures of the "Private Lake" sign, along with pictures of the lake and of the trees and sky. It was a very interesting project as I got to see and view things from different angles and try out photography.

"Life of Pi Inspired Projects"

These are both projects I did inspired by the movie Life of Pi. The first project is just a pun I thought of based on the movie title. In the new garden outside of the breezeway there was a metal butterfly thing in the ground and I took of picture of that and some flowers. By doing this I did a double exposure technique and created a flower filled butterfly, hence "Life of Fly". The 2nd project was more of a stretch. I took a picture of a boat at sail at sea during the day and used the paint tools to create a night scene with a large moon and stars. I also darkened the water and created some shadowy mountains. I used a flower picture with a multiply effect for a border.

"Independent Reading Project"

This is an alternative book cover I did for the book Fallen Angels written by Walter Dean Myers. This book is about a 17 year old African-American high school graduate Richie who decides to join the Army fresh out of high school. This is during the Vietnam War, however, he does not think he will actually be deployed to Vietnam because of rumors of peace. So, I picked a picture of war helicopters that were first used in Vietnam for the top. This is an icon for the Vietnam war. Since the picture was a lighter color I used a black text. The font I found on dafont.com and thought it worked well with the theme. I used a double exposure technique for both Vietnam and the United States. Within the countries is a picture of race riots in Harlem during this time. In the book, Richie's younger brother writes to him about riots happening in Harlem because a white police officer killed a black teenager. I used a grey background for most of the cover. I contrasted this with white text. I found a grainy texture online and used this with a low opacity to give it an aged, historical feel to combine with the black, white, and grey.

"Double Exposure Projects"

The goal of this project was to create an image using a double exposure technique. This is where two images come together to form one from two. I used a picture I took during the winter of my backyard and the face of Vince Staples. That was how I got the original image or the very first one out of the four. Next I was experimenting with backgrounds and Andrew mentioned outer space. So, I took an image of outer space and put in into my image and put it on overlay. This made the 2nd image. Then I just pulled ideas from McDonalds and the American flag. I used the same process with these two. I then put them all into a single project and lined them up.
